Supporting smallholder farmers is about more than just products and customer service. No matter where we go, farmers are constantly looking to learn and the best way to help farmers learn is to work side-by-side in the field together. With a vision of supporting entire communities, each Farm Shop outlet establishes a series of local demonstration plots, runs regular farmer clinics and hosts product promotions from a host of supplier partners. Product demonstrations are an opportunity for our suppliers to shine. Hosted at the local Farm Shop outlet, product demos provide a chance for farmers to interact directly with manufacturers, hear about their products and ask questions before making a buying decision. Farm Shop hosts regular demos and often has company agronomists or veterinarians on hand, helping to deepen the opportunity for farmers to learn from experts and get tailored advice.
Farm Shop’s clinic days are in-house events hosted at each individual location. During these sessions, trained veterinarians and agronomists from Farm Shop’s team provide diagnostics and post-mortem analysis to farmers free of charge. The sessions provide an opportunity for farmers to learn why an animal or plant is sick or dying and how to remedy the situation. They also provide an important opportunity for Farm Shop to learn what issues are facing our customers and how we can better support them.
Around each outlet, Farm Shop establishes up to four unique demonstration plots to engage local farmers and help them learn. The demo plots are managed by respected local farmers and cover everything from food crops to cash crops, livestock to aquaculture. Demo plot farmers are mentored by our in-house agronomists and livestock specialists in sustainable agriculture practices. Regular training sessions allow the demos to become a forum for local learning and for farmers to see products and practices in action.
